i just got an email from trainingpeaks that they will discontinue support for the timex device agent, which connects the watch to their site, next month and shut the service down next year. if you are sending it up to tp, you have to be downloading your data locally (if even temporarily) on your host computer or device before you send it up. from what little i know about the timex watches, the later version acted like a usb thumb drive so you could manually drag/drop the file from the watch if you wanted to – tp just designed the agent to make uploading easier. otherwise if you want a local option, i use golden cheetah – it’s sort of like wko+ but without the polish which is understandable because it’s a gpl/free. i don’t see a direct importer for timex, so you’d have to manually import the files like i do with my 910xt (garmin) – it’s quick and easy now that i have it directed at the garmin upload folder. if all else fails, you may need to use a converter to get the older files back into a tcx file that any online repository or gc can read. the watch does connect via usb, but does not show up as a device in the list of drives.
i’d also be curious to know what other timex owners are going for alternatives to training peaks. i just called timex (1-800-448-4639) and got through to someone very quickly – i explained the issue and was transferred to another group where i also spoke to a rep within a minute. the rep was aware of the situation and told me that they just found out about this yesterday like everyone else. i contacted timex and got this reply “… we have contacted our engineering department and will advise a potential workaround that will allow users to download their data from their watch to their computer and from there upload that data into a 3rd party fitness site like strava, runkeeper, mapmyrun.” i’m personally planning writing a script to convert my downloaded logs from pwx to gpx format. this site and this site do the same thing, but you have to load one file at a time, and i want to do a bulk conversion/upload all at once. there may be some hidden way of getting the data out of the watch but i don’t care anymore.
