this is the “building block” course for all agility courses, and is open to dogs and puppies of any age.prerequisite: must have taken at least one of the following classes, or the equivalent, or pass an evaluation with an instructor: this will be a 2-part class where you will learn the handling system taught at y2k9s, with an emphasis on practicing this system over one and two-jump sequences. the class will focus on transferring target behavior to contact equipment and back-chaining each contact obstacle. this class will build on the skills from agility skills 1 in order to prepare students for sequencing skills 1. in general, students who are new to agility skills will not be able to register for this class without taking agility skills 1. any exceptions must be approved by the instructor before registering. dogs should be able to do all equipment full height and be able to weave (can be channel weaves and opened).
the dog and handler team maneuver through a course containing a series of numbered obstacles including an a-frame, dog walk, teeter (seesaw) weave poles, jumps and tunnels. we will use a series of motivational games to build teamwork, play, motivation, drive, and focus while teaching the pups body awareness, self-control, foundation handling skills and foundation obstacle skills. intro to basic handling skills on the flat, building handler and obstacle focus. class will continue to build handling skills on techniques from f2 and f3 already and introduce new handling techniques. handling and contact training will continue to progress.
this class will continue to work on weave pole training, getting to 6 straight poles and working up to 12. dogs will continue to work on independent entries and exits of weave poles. this class will focus on handling longer sequences with all the obstacles and weaves. this class will contain sequences focusing on handling and obstacle skills required for the green dog getting ready or just starting to compete. requirements: dogs must be competing at the masters/excellent / level 5 or be able to handle courses of this level of difficulty. a full course will be broken down and worked in shorter sequences.
