(sadly, i didn’t get much base training in, so i was out of shape at the beginning of the season).then, a week later, to my surprise, i pr’ed with 11:14 in 3200m and 5:09 in 1600m. i ran, and threw in a massive surge on the last lap, and pr’ed with 5:00.72! (gosh now i know how german fernandez felt)my split-plan right now is this:62-632:24-2:263:38-3:42 i’m a freshman with a 5:01 pr and am too trying to break 5 for district. my legs don’t burn so much, try stretching and warming up for a longer period of time.i’ve also noticed veins on the side of my calves and legs but have no idea if it’s normal. 15min of jogging and some strides isn’t really enough to truly prepare for a race.
open up with 300 to go and hammer the last 200. also, it’s a mental barrier, physically you are probably ready. you might be psyching yourself out, an don’t going to your full potential because you know you have the 2 mile coming up, or you finished it and are tired. it seems you are hitting the splits, and right there, you just need a little bit mor eon one of the laps that you are running? get in a race with people that will pull you, and just race. i run a 2:15 800m and an 11:14 3200m as a hs sophomore – trying to break 5 on the 1600m atm as well. when i broke 5 i was 2:19/11:03, although to be fair my 2:19 was indoor and my only 800, while the 11:03 was in a windstorm that was worth roughly a 10:40. i’d say 2:15/10:40 should be good at least for 4:55, and to break 5 you need 2:17/10:50, but there are exceptions of course.
