i’ve seen some programs that are really long and do off season training, but i only have about four weeks until my first event. i’ve seen some stuff about fartlek, hills, and interval training in the long programs and i’m not sure if i should do that or just go for milage at this point. i’ve focussed this winter on the 3k as well (indoor), so here’s a short list of some of the event specific sessions i did. keep in mind that i’ve usually done sessions like these once or twice a week, combined with lots of easy runs varying from 30 to 90 minutes. a really stupid question: when you say sessions, are you talking about a single one of the routines, or all of them together one after another?
i dont even think they are good for that. the sessions you suggested are at max speed with limited reps with max rest. i dont see a lot of benefit of doing these type of sessions. you should be doing sessions like these that test your lactic thresholds and give you minimum rest. i would suggest doing easy medium and long runs in the week and only do 2 workouts like i suggested above a week no more is needed and make sure they are split up by at least 2 days of easy running. on those subs you’ll be more likely to find input from people with experience in competitive track and field.
